Get to Know Us
The Black Sioux Warriors are Black Masking Mardi Gras Indians rooted in the streets of Uptown New Orleans — born from a deep respect for our ancestors who crafted this culture with their hands, hearts, and resistance. We honor those who came before us by continuing the legacy of beading, sewing, and storytelling through suit and sound.
Founded in March 2024 by Chief Black Sioux and a group of like-minded peers, the tribe came together with one vision: to preserve the tradition of Black Masking while bringing something new, bold, and fresh to the streets. With reverence for the past and eyes toward the future, the Black Sioux Warriors stepped out and burned the streets down on Mardi Gras Day 2025 — not just with suits, but with soul.
Our mission is more than masking — it’s about cultural expression, creative freedom, and keeping the flame of our heritage alive, one stitch, one chant, and one step at a time.

Meet Chief Black Sioux
Chief Black Sioux is more than a name — he’s a movement. A musician, Big Chief, and cultural torchbearer, he leads the Black Sioux Warriors with the spirit of tradition and the fire of innovation. Raised in the heart of New Orleans, Chief brings over 20 years of musical experience in the city’s brass and jazz scenes, with deep roots in the church and street culture that shaped his sound and story.
As the founding Big Chief of the tribe, he doesn’t just mask — he sings, sews, and leads from the front, blending Mardi Gras Indian heritage with modern-day soul, funk, and Afrobeat energy. His debut album Doin’ It My Way tells a story sewn with purpose and pride — where every note, stitch, and lyric honors the culture while pushing it forward.
Chief Black Sioux is culture in motion.
From suit to stage, he’s doing it his way.

Doin’ It My Way – The Debut Album
“This album is a living suit — stitched with soul, sewn in rhythm, and soaked in culture.”
Doin’ It My Way is more than a debut — it’s a declaration. The first album from Chief Black Sioux, Big Chief of the Black Sioux Warriors and frontman of Da Truth Brass Band, this project is rooted in New Orleans but reaches far beyond it.
Every track tells a story. From the bounce of brass and bass to the weight of tradition and pride, this album fuses funk, R&B, soul, and Black Masking culture into one powerful expression of rhythm and resilience.
It’s not just music — it’s a stitched testimony of a life shaped by culture, family, struggle, and spiritual freedom.
